Oklahoma City Plaza District Festival: Celebrating Local Creativity and Progress

On Saturday, September 28, 2013, Oklahoma City’s Plaza District celebrated local creativity with the annual Plaza District Festival, where people enjoy live music, artist booths, kids' art activities and a variety of local food and drink. The Plaza District is one of Oklahoma City's revitalized commercial districts, home to the renovated Lyric Theatre at the Plaza, as well as retail shops, studios and galleries owned by creative entrepreneurs. The Plaza District Festival celebrates the progress of the Plaza District, once blighted by urban decay but now boasting a creative and diverse culture and renewed energy. The Festival highlights an array of Oklahoma’s own performing artists, visual artists and musicians, and patrons enjoy local food and the opportunity to purchase items at artists’ booths. During the daylong Plaza District Festival, live musical and dance performances can be enjoyed at any of the four stages set up in the district. Photographer Cliff Brown of Norman, Oklahoma, creates unique, artistic photographs and offers a variety of services including wedding photography, wedding portraits, event photography, and on-location portraits including senior portraits and pet photography. Oklahoma City artist James Rogers creates stained glass windows, glass sun catchers and jewelry. He was inspired to take up glasswork after coming across some old stained glass windows at an antique store. Both artists laud both the Plaza District and the Plaza District Festival for an atmosphere of energy embraced by a creative and diverse culture.
